![]() ![]() ![]() I answered some tough questions, and I was there for final Jeopardy! and very much in contention at that point, but I couldn’t even parse out what they wanted, and came in third. I wear them most days.Įveryone says I played well. I had multiple other cashmere sweaters and a few necklaces, one of which belonged to my other grandmother, in my bag, as they tell you to come with three outfits (though I tend not to travel with my nicer jewelry because I don’t have much and I’m afraid I’ll lose it.) Cashmere cardigans are kind of my thing. I played my single Jeopardy! game in a navy cashmere sweater and a silver necklace that belonged to my grandmother. Coming on the heels of all the articles about Arthur Chu’s aggressive style of play, obnoxious personality, and slovenly dress, it was nice to have someone to root for. She just knew a lot about a lot of things, was fast on the buzzer, and had a pleasant personality. But Julia struck a nerve with a lot of women because she wasn’t a shark, she wasn’t jumping around the board looking for Daily Doubles, she wasn’t trying to out smart aleck Alex. But as much as I wanted to do what Ken Jennings or Brad Rutter or Arthur Chu did by winning a lot of money, none of them ever made me think “he’s so much like me.” I can’t even say I’ve felt that about many of the high scoring female players of the past, much as I like Larissa Kelly and Pam Mueller and Claudia Perry. Many people watching at home think “I could do that.” Everyone who tries out has thought that for sure. I imagineĪlex Trebek and me in the Jeopardy! studios. Of course, there’s always the “why couldn’t that have been me?” factor. I don’t like Tweeting, but maybe I can try to get this post to her, though I am sure there are a lot like it. Since my whole research agenda is about making things better for smart girls, that makes me very happy. ![]() I don’t think I’m going to try to make it in Hollywood. I want to encourage girls to be as smart as they are. Education has been the most important thing in my life. I’d like to do something for education for girls. I was heartened to see that in response to the question from Vulture of “What’s your pop-culture calling going to be?” She won over $4oo,ooo, and I imagine can pick and choose whatever job she wants, in supply chain management or some other field. It was heartening to see a brainy, nice, funny woman with nice sweaters and necklaces win, and win a lot. And it seems likely no one will, at least while Alex Trebek is host. She won’t get to the point of beating Ken Jennings’ record. So– spoiler alert if you’re a few days behind on Jeopardy! Julia Collins lost in her 21st game on Monday. Julia Collins and Alex Trebek on Jeopardy! From SF The appetizers are usually really good–there’s this little tenderloin potato chip thing I hope they have. They primarily assign me students who want to study communications or media, and I think we’re getting fewer of those.Īnticipating: Seeing my Saratoga friends. I am having 3 students graduate, plus another two who are done but missed the official deadline, so I won’t be surprised to get more new ones. Files for a few new mentees, which is what we call advisees at our college. Producing: A proposal for a new course, although I might just change the name of an old course since I kind of have one that does this already, and propose something different. Takeout Chinese food since we were at the office pretty late last night, and Chris teaches tonight and will be even later, and then I’ll be gone tomorrow night, so we wanted a lot of leftovers. It’s my go-to lunch when I’m at the office, and next week I’ll get the final punch on my “salad card” that will get me a free one. ![]()
